About
Cassie Morgan and the Lonely Pine have woven a lush sonic world of delicate, yet deeply affecting melodies. On the St. Louis-based duo’s full-length release (Weathered Hands, Weary Eyes), Morgan’s captivating story-songs, sparsely dressed with close harmonies and a patchwork of organic instruments, shine through the warm hiss of tape and the melodic plucking of the guitar. Though largely folk-derived, the music crosses over into americana, blues, and indie-rock, drawing comparisons to artists including Hope Sandoval, Emmylou Harris, Cat Power, and Gillian Welch.
Cassie Morgan and the Lonely Pine has had the pleasure of sharing a stage with Mumford and Sons, Richard Buckner, Rhett Miller, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Sarah Jarosz, Night Beds, Peter Wolf Crier, Jill Andrews, Among the Oak & Ash, Samantha Crain, Pieta Brown, Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps, Death Vessel, Alina Simone, and The Lighthouse and the Whaler.
The duo was honored as one of the 100 Greatest Musicians in St. Louis history by St. Louis Magazine in 2012, and named Best Folk Band in the 2011 Riverfront Times Music Awards. Morgan is a 2009 and 2010 Riverfront Times Music Award winner (Best Female Singer-Songwriter, Best Female Vocalist) and was named Best Folk Artist in the 2009 Riverfront Times Best of St. Louis awards.
Morgan’s solo debut album, the Pine So Sweet EP, was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Joey Lemon in Chicago, IL (Samantha Crain, Berry, Caleb Engstrom), and features the members of Berry (Joey Lemon, Matt Aufrecht, and Paul Goodenough), and Lindsey Czechowicz. Pine So Sweet was named one of the top ten St. Louis releases in 2008.
Beth Bombara joined Morgan in the studio in June of 2009 to record the duo’s first LP, Weathered Hands, Weary Eyes, released in April 2010. Joining forces with Joey Lemon once again for engineering, mixing, and mastering, Morgan and Bombara recorded 90% of the tracks live to analog tape for an earthy character, true to the duo’s distinctive live performance. Weathered Hands, Weary Eyes and the Pine So Sweet EP are available on iTunes, Amazon , CD Baby, and in St. Louis area independent record stores.
Morgan is releasing a solo 7 inch record, “A Day Longer,” for Record Store Day 2013.
