In March we traveled (slightly) west to Columbia, MO to play at the True/False Film Festival – one of the wildest and most wonderful experiences I’ve ever had. It was four days full of films, music, celebration, meeting wonderfully talented people, and getting very little sleep. Apparently even James Franco showed up at some point. Anyway…I digress.

As one of the bands at the festival, we played a very fun (and very sweaty) music showcase at Mojo’s, along with Dark, Dark, Dark, Why Are We Building Such a Big Ship?, and Believers, and we were able to perform before the screenings of four extraordinary films: one “secret” screening, Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, Gypsy Davy, and Detropia). You should check out all of those films if/when you get a chance. You should also add “Bully” to that list. We caught a showing of it that included a question/answer session with the filmmakers and film subjects; needless to say, it was heart-wrenching and the audience was one big puddle of tear-soaked mush by the end.

Basically, I loved every second of the festival. If you’ve never been, you should remedy that next year.

xoxo,

Cassie

The Inflatable Ferret, a monthly online music and film publication and news blog based out of New York, featured an interview with Cassie Morgan in their most recent issue. James Passarelli’s interview with Cassie, “Laborer of Love: How St. Louis Folksinger Cassie Morgan Destroys the Myth of the Lazy Musician,” featuring wonderful photos by Nate Burrell, can be found here, starting with page 14.

Here’s just a bit of what James had to say, but you should really check out the full interview and download the entire issue:

“Their first full LP, Weathered Hands, Weary Eyes, was recorded in just one intense weekend session, but you would never guess by listening. The relaxed melodies throughout the album are cool enough to seem effortless, but too beautiful and focused to have been lazily thrown together. And despite the duo’s liberty with Lemon’s resources and production talent, the album sounds just as organic as (Morgan’s) song, ‘Paper Leaves,’ which was captured on a Chicago porch and features improvised birdsongs and fire truck sirens.” –James Passarelli, Inflatable Ferret
